As opposed to walking or taking the Underground between the two stations, we offer the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the delights of both the West Coast and East Coast Main Lines. The train will be worked throughout by Class 87 87002 Royal Sovereign. 87002 was an everyday sight on the West Coast Main Line for many years until replaced by the Pendolinos introduced under Virgin Trains. Its operation on the East Coast Man Line, however, has been few and far between over the years. GBRf having last used 87002 on Caledonian Sleeper diversions.

The route will take us from London Euston via Rugby, Nuneaton, Crewe, Carlisle, Carstairs (South Jn) and Haymarket. Offering views of the Northern Fells once north of Oxenholme On arrival at Edinburgh Waverley there will be a break of around 2 hours or so to stretch your legs and take in some of the sights of the capital of Scotland.

Departing Edinburgh, the route takes us over the Royal Boarder Bridge at Berwick upon Tweed, through Northumberland to Newcastle. Crossing the King Edward Bridge, we continue south through Durham, Darlington, York, Doncaster, Grantham and Peterborough before arriving back at London Kings Cross. This is a journey of circa 800miles by rail as opposed to circa 800m by walking or Underground.
