Starting at Newcastle upon Tyne, our Class 55 ‘Deltic’ hauled charter will take our First Class Mark 3 InterCity carriages to Bridgnorth on the delightful Severn Valley Railway, for a break of around three hours. Built in the early 1960s by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, the Deltics were designed for high-speed express passenger services along the East Coast Main Line.
We will follow the East Coast Main Line to Doncaster, before heading through Chesterfield, Toton and Castle Donington to reach Water Orton. Here, we will take the normally freight only Sutton Park line to Walsall, before continuing our journey to Kidderminster and on to the heritage railway. Our special train will travel along the scenic line through Bewdley, Highley and Hampton Loade before reaching the end of the line at Bridgnorth, home of the famous Castle Hill funicular railway!
The sixteen mile long Severn Valley Railway runs through breathtaking scenery, and charming towns and villages. The primarily steam-hauled services are an adventure back in time. There are a variety of pubs and restaurants for drinks and refreshments, including two CAMRA award winning pubs; The Railwayman’s Arms at Bridgnorth and The King and Castle at Kidderminster. Take a trip to Highley to visit The Engine House, where the reserve collection of steam locomotives are kept. Delve into the intriguing history of Britain’s railways, enjoy themed exhibitions of unique railway vehicles and meet Gordon, the blue engine! A well-stocked gift shop and restaurant, with its panoramic views across the Severn Valley, also awaits.
