The name is synonymous with one train that connects Leeds/Sheffield to London. First started in 1947 the Master Cutler has run variously from Leeds or Sheffield to London, over several different routes and to different termini in London. The name celebrates the Company of Cutlers and the office of the Master Cutler.

Todays’ train will start from Leeds and run via Wakefield Westgate, Sheffield and Chesterfield. On leaving Chesterfield the train will run non-stop to London St Pancras via the Erewash Valley, Syston North Jn, Manton Jn, Corby and the glorious Harringworth Viaduct , Kettering & Bedford.

On arrival into London St Pancras there will be a break of around 3 hours. On departure from London St Pancras the train will again run non-stop, but this time the route from Kettering will be via Leicester and onwards to Derby, our first set down on the return. From Derby the train will run via Ambergate Jn to Chesterfield and then setting down as outward. The train will be hauled throughout by Class 45 45118 The Royal Artilleryman. A Class 47 will be attached on the rear to facilitate the terminal working at London St Pancras.
