Travel in First Class comfort in our InterCity carriages from the north west to St Pancras International, hauled by our Class 45 ‘Peak’ locomotive 45118 The Royal Artilleryman, subject to availability. The ‘Peaks’ once dominated services to and from St Pancras along the Midland Main Line to Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield. They remained part of the route until the early 1980s until they were replaced by High Speed Trains. In the event that 45118 is unavailable, the train will be worked by a pair of our Class 37 heritage locomotives.
From Lancaster, we will follow the West Coast Main Line to Nuneaton, before heading east towards Leicester. We will take the diversionary route from Manton Junction to reach Kettering via Corby, crossing the majestic 82 arch Harringworth Viaduct. From Kettering we will follow the Midland Main Line through Bedford and into St Pancras International, where Eurostar trains now depart for Paris and Brussels. Our return journey will see us take the direct route from Kettering towards Leicester, and then follow the little used Wigston South Curve to reach Nuneaton and our set down stations.
A three hour break in London will provide ample time to enjoy the wonderful environs of St Pancras International and the surrounding area. There’s a wealth of shops, restaurants, cafes, and pubs to welcome you. The Grade I listed building features a number of art installations including the famous Meeting Place statue and an 8.5 foot sculpture of famous poet and railway enthusiast Sir John Betjeman, who led a campaign to save St Pancras Station in the 1960s. It is said that the coat tail on the statue was designed to emulate the shape of the station’s famous Barlow train shed roof! Or for a short leg stretch, why not head to the British Library, where you can explore the world’s most exciting, beautiful and significant books, maps and manuscripts.
