Our Class 87 hauled charter will take our First Class Mark 3 Inter City carriages to Glasgow Central, for an afternoon break of around three hours.  Built in the 1970s by British Rail Engineering Limited at Crewe, the electric locomotives were designed for high-speed express passenger services along the West Coast Main Line; being the very journey we recreate with our special train.

Glasgow boasts a wide range of attractions for your visit.  The award-winning Riverside Museum near Partick is only a short journey away and features over 3000 exhibits from vintage cars to trams and locomotives. You can even walk down an old, cobbled street with shops dating from 1895 to the 1980s.  Or take a journey on the 6.5 mile circular Glasgow Subway, known as the clockwork orange, and explore the bars and restaurants of the West End.

Of course, it’s not just about the destination.  After our last call at Preston, we soon reach the delights of Oxenholme and enjoy picture postcard views of the majestic Lake District, before heading to the Lune Gorge and on to Tebay.  After the border city of Carlisle, we start the ten mile climb to Beattock Summit, 1016 feet above sea level, as referenced in W H Auden’s famous poem, Night Mail.  Finally, after crossing the River Clyde and having travelled over 400 miles from Euston we arrive in the magnificent Glasgow Central station for our afternoon break.
