- Warrington Bank Quay
Starting in the West Midlands, our Class 55 ‘Deltic’ hauled charter will take our First Class MkIII Intercity carriages to the vibrant North East City of Newcastle, for a break of around three hours. Built in the early 1960s by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, the Deltics were designed for high-speed express passenger services along the East Coast Main Line.
From Wolverhampton, however, we will follow the West Coast Main Line through the Lake District to Upperby Bridge Jn before turning east along the Tyne Valley Line via Hexham, and on to Newcastle. During our break, take the opportunity to walk along Quayside or visit Newcastle’s oldest pub, The Old George, dating back to 1582.
Our return journey will see us travel along the traditional stomping ground of the Deltics, as we make our way home via Durham and Northallerton to York. Here, we take the route via Huddersfield to reach Manchester Victoria and then Winwick Jn (the birthplace of the Deltics) before our first set down point of Warrington Bank Quay, and onwards to Wolverhampton.
