Our coast to coast adventure sees our special train travelling from the Welsh port of Holyhead to the North Yorkshire seaside resort of Scarborough, hauled by our heritage Class 40 locomotive, in the comfort of our First Class InterCity carriages. A three hour break at the east coast town will provide ample time to enjoy the many facilities the town has to offer.
Our journey will take us along the North Wales coast and through Manchester Victoria before tackling the climb over the Pennines via Huddersfield to reach York. After departure from York, we will cross the River Ouse and later the River Derwent as we approach Malton, proudly known as Yorkshire’s food capital! The 42 miles from York to Scarborough boasts a rather grand total of 89 level crossings! Our return journey will take the scenic route through Hebden Bridge and over Copy Pit Summit to Blackburn, before joining the West Coast Main Line at Farington Junction.
Scarborough offers a wide range of attractions for a relaxing afternoon visit. Enjoy a ride on the two remaining funicular cliff railways at Central or South Cliff, or make your way to the narrow gauge North Bay Railway, one of the oldest seaside railways in the country. For a more traditional seaside visit, take a boat trip out to sea, enjoy the amusements, or treat yourself to fish & chips and ice cream by the bay. Alternatively, alight at York for an extended break in this fascinating city. Whatever you choose to do, you will look forward to a comfortable journey home and evening arrival at our set down stations.
